ISLAND PEAK

Island Peak is also known as Imja Tse, one of the most popular trekking peaks in Everest region of Nepal. Rising 6,189m above the sea level, Island peak is beautifully located in the middle of Chhukung valley, on top of the Chhukung Glacier between Mt. Lhotse and Ama Dablam. This peak is coming down as an extension of the ridge from the southern end of Lhotse Shar, sits like an island in the sea of ice. Therefore, it was named Island Peak by a climbing team of Eric Shipton in 1953. This peak is the best trekking peaks for adventure climbing.  Climbing Island peak not only provides an enjoyable climb but also provides some of the most spectacular scenery of Himalayas in the Everest region. From the summit one can see the giant mountains, Nuptse (7,879m), Lhotse (8,501m), Lhotse Middle Peak (8,410m) and Lhotse Shar (8,383m) make a semi circle in the north, the views of Makalu (8475m) in the east, Baruntse and Amadablam in the south add more charm in climbing Island Peak. For many mountaineers climbing Island Peak marks the beginning of climbing on Himalayas to prepare for a big Himalaya expedition in Nepal in the later years.

The trail also offers an exclusive opportunity to experience glacial moraines (Imja and Lhotse), suspension bridges, monasteries, prayer rocks, colorful settlements decorated with flags, and Sagarmatha National Park that features varieties of rare flora, fauna and birds. In addition to this, the warm hospitality offered by the Sherpa people makes the trail more enjoyable.
